Half-day & full-day dog sledding
No experience needed: this is where every musher starts. After a safety briefing, you meet the huskies who will pull you today. Your guide shows you how to harness them, how to brake, how to lean into a turn and how to talk to your lead dogs. Then the trail is yours: you drive the sled yourself, behind a team of four to six dogs. On the half day, two guests share each sled and take turns at the handlebar; on the full day, you drive your own sled and your own team.
From the kennel, the trail winds through the snowy boreal forest of the Southern Lakes, between spruce and pine, then opens onto the frozen lakes when the ice allows. The only sounds are the runners on the snow and the breathing of the dogs. Your guide chooses the route each day according to snow, ice and weather.
The half day is the perfect first taste: about two hours on the trail, then hot drinks and time with the huskies back at the kennel. The full day goes further into the backcountry, with lunch on the trail before the afternoon run.
A transfer from downtown Whitehorse can be added when you book ($53 per person, all taxes included), so all you have to do is enjoy the ride.
